Little effort is needed to see that things are growing worse around the globe. World economies are falling apart, riots are spreading across the U.S. like a plague during a pandemic, earthquakes are increasing, wildfires are expanding, and it seems like everybody is worried what trial the next month will bring. What in the world is going on?
Though no one knows the exact plans of the LORD in all of this, there is one thing we do know – the Great Tribulation will be far worse than the nations have ever experienced (Jer. 30:7; Matt. 24:21; Rev. 6 – 19). But why will everything collapse, everyone suffer, and the earth be thrown into chaos and confusion? Well, ultimately because of God’s wrath toward sin (Rev. 6:16; 19:15), but part of God’s coming judgment will actually be the removal of His Church (1 Thess. 4:13-18; Rev. 3:10).
A World After Church
Speaking of the coming Antichrist, the Apostle Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 2:6-8,
And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only He [the Holy Spirit] who now restrains it will do so until He [the Holy Spirit] is out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of His mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of His coming.
Did you notice what the text says? The future man of lawlessness [i.e. the Antichrist] will not come to light until the Holy Spirit is removed. However, since all believers are indwelled by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12:7) and God’s Spirit is our Seal of Salvation that cannot be broken (Eph. 1:13-14), what this means is that wherever the Spirit goes we go. Thus, when the day comes that God will remove His Spirit from the earth, the Church will also be taken out of the way – this is known as the rapture and, after this point, everything will begin to truly fall apart.
Why? Imagine a world with no Christians. Think about all the ramifications of a global society where no one fights to protect life or the human rights of others. It is easy to look back on the atrocities of the past or even the frightening events happening in our own day and age, but this coming Antichrist and the violence he will instigate will make Hitler and the holocaust look like a schoolboy on the playground.
How Will Future People View 2020?
In the future, after God takes His Church out of the world, people will look back on 2020 and say, “Oh, that was nothing! The burning of Australia was only a small fire pit; COVID-19 was only a cold; the murder hornets were meek and mild; the riots were just a few children horsing around.”
Conclusion – Email I Received
Below is an email I received earlier last month from someone I do not know, but I have included it because it is comical to me. If you believe that this current set of affairs is God’s wrath on mankind, then you are gravely mistaken and do not fully understand what will eventually transpire because the outpouring of God’s wrath will be far worse.
